Events should not cost the earth! Wherever & whenever possible, we strive to identify & implement sustainable event solutions. Let’s work together to make your next event more sustainable by minimizing & offsetting environmental impact … and even giving back.
“Sustainability for events means taking action towards preserving our natural environment; promoting a healthy, inclusive society; and supporting a thriving economy.” – The Events Industry Council (EIC)
Sustainable Event Stats
According to MeetGreen’s research …
- The average conference attendee produces over 170 kilograms of CO2 emissions per day.
- A three-day conference for 1000 people creates 5670 kilograms of waste, over half of which will go directly to landfill.
Why Sustainability Matters
If you are yet to come around to leading a more ecologically responsible lifestyle, and need more reasons why extra effort needs to be made towards making events sustainable, it’s quite simply good business practice. Your audience does care, often with conviction, and they can have high expectations.
The events industry has a huge carbon footprint; electricity & vast quantities of waste. It is long since time for us all to set an example and take proactive steps to make events much more sustainable. This includes choosing locations & venues carefully, offsetting air miles with carbon, eliminating plastic waste, opting for locally-sourced and produced food and drinks, and choosing ethical suppliers.
The above suggestions are just a start. There is much that each of us can do to design events as vehicles to help end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect our planet.
Make your events sustainable and together we can ensure they don’t cost the earth.
Sustainable Event Planning for Impact
Location & Venue – The key focus areas during the planning phase begin with location & venue choice. We then move swiftly onto Food & Drink including the ability to work closely with the venue to minimise, if not eradicate, waste and to negotiate any minimum guarantee clauses, getting venue buy-in too.
Event Tech – The pace of technological advance in the event sector is taking place at breakneck speed – embrace it! Is a printed book really 21st century when an app does a better job with lots of engagement functions too? Does everyone need to be flown-in or could some attend virtually (livestream, virtual breakouts & more)?
Print – Printed materials are a big culprit. Think about what really does and does not need to be printed in this day-and-age. For essential printed materials there are many materials to explore that can be recycled, reused and/or repurposed after the event.
Swag – For years we had venues coming to ask what they should do with event bags left in rooms. Why pack bags full of stuff that no-one wants? Instead choose promotional products that are sustainable, built-to-last & that your audience connects with. Consider using graphic design to incorporate your brand more subtly. Who wants to be a walking billboard?
We know that our actions and those of our partners can impact the environment. We take every step possible to minimize & offset an event’s environmental impact. Making green choices doesn’t have to negatively impact your event’s bottom-line.
