Phuket – Southern Thailand

Destinations, Featured, Phuket, Thailandon September 8th, 2009No Comments

Phuket is by far the most well-known and popular destination off Thailand’s Andaman coast and it is also Thailand’s largest island and the Kingdom’s richest and most developed province. As the country’s premiere retreat, Phuket has not escaped the attention of some of the world’s best known celebs who have jumped on the luxury villa bandwagon and joined Phuket’s shifting tide as it becomes one of the world’s top luxury travel destinations.

With lavish villas, new benchmark hotels have also emerged and aging hotels renovated. Yacht marinas have appeared to compliment Phuket’s already well-established annual King’s Cup Regatta and to provide safe sanctuary for the ever increasing number of super yachts, sailing yachts and motor cruisers. The island is home to one of Thailand’s finest golf courses, is the perfect spring board for world class scuba diving trips and has a diverse nightlife ranging from hedonistic to romantic, bright lights to quiet beachfront nights.

With an interior of jungle covered hills, the limestone cliffs of the coast stand sentinel over wide swathes of sandy beaches and the clear waters of the Andaman Sea. Phuket really does offer an oasis for every taste and budget. Patong is where the action is day and night but sprinkled around the island are sophisticated resorts and hotels some geared for corporate travel others families, honeymooners and romantics to gastronomes, sports enthusiasts to those craving temporary recluse.

The island has developed a cosmopolitan atmosphere where gourmet international cuisine sits side-by-side with delicious Thai street food and local fare. The bulk of Phukets infrastructure is geared towards ensuring that visitors are given a first rate experience in which all your needs are catered for. Phuket, with its international airport, is also an ideal springboard to the region whose alternative destinations can be accessed by land, boat, seaplane or helicopter. Excursions can also be made from here to the Mergui Archipelago in Myanmar.
